The Giay (pronounced "Zay") migrated to northern Vietnam from southern China about 200 years ago. They are predominantly animists. Twice a year, they sacrifice parts of animals such as pig or buffalo ears, chicken feet, etc. in order to appease the spirits of the village. Please pray that the Giay will come to know the Lamb of God who loves them and gave His life for them. Praise the Lord that through the outreach of another tribal group a few Giay have accepted Christ as their Savior!

Pray for the Giay

Use the requests and Scriptures below to guide your prayers for the Giay over the next week.

Monday

Ask God to lead Christians from other tribal groups to share the gospel with the Giay. Several of the hill tribes speak languages similar to the Giay.

Lord, Your name will be great among the Giay, from the rising to the setting of the sun. In every place incense and pure offerings will be brought to Your name, because Your name will be great among the Giay. (Malachi 1:11)

Tuesday

The Jesus Film and other gospel recordings are available in the Bouyei language, which is very similar to the Giay language. Pray that these resources will be used by God to bring many Giay to Himself.

May the Giay turn to You, Lord, and be saved for You are God, and there is no other. You have sworn by Yourself, the word is gone out of Your mouth in righteousness and will not turn back. O Lord, may every knee of the Giay bow and every tongue of the Giay give praise to You and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. (Isaiah 45:22-23; Romans 10:9)

Wednesday

Pray for the few Giay who have come to faith in Christ. Pray that they will grow strong in their faith and that they will have opportunities to share their faith with their friends and relatives. Pray that the number of Giay Christians will multiply exponentially.

I pray the families of the Giay will ascribe to You the glory due Your name. May the Giay worship You in the splendor of Your holiness and tremble before You. For the Giay will say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.” (Psalm 96:7-10)

Thursday

Pray that God will call out Vietnamese church planters to go to Giay villages to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Pray that God will lead them to people of peace who are open to receiving the gospel.

I pray that all the Giay will remember and turn to You and that all the families of the Giay will bow down before You, for dominion belongs to You, Lord, and You rule over the Giay. (Psalm 22:27-28)

Friday

Ask God to break down the barriers that are keeping the Giay from coming to Him. Ask Him to create a hunger in their hearts to know the Most High God.

O Lord, the gospel has been veiled to the Giay who are perishing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of the Giay, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ. Lord, when You said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” You made Your light shine in the hearts of the Giay and gave them the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. (2 Corinthians 4:3-6)

Saturday

As the Giay participate in sacrificial offerings of animals to the spirits, ask God to reveal to them the Lamb of God who takes away their sin.

All the earth bows down to You. They sing praise to You. They sing praise to Your name. I pray the Giay will come and see what God has done. How awesome are Your works on their behalf. You rule forever by Your power and Your eyes watch over the Giay. (Psalm 66:4-7)

Sunday

Continue to pray for the persecuted church in Vietnam—particularly for the Giay believers. Pray that they will know the peace of God that passes all understanding and that they will stand strong in their faith.

Lord, build up the Giay, gather them, heal their broken hearts, bind up their wounds and cure their pain and their sorrows. Father, You are close to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit. (Psalm 147:2-6; Psalm 34:18
